Alphafly Next% 2 versus Next% 3: what changed and which should a marathon runner buy today?

The Next% 3 revised the Atomknit upper to a more flexible knit that wraps the foot with less bulk, and the ZoomX midsole was subtly retuned for a slightly quicker energy return. The Next% 2 remains a valid race shoe and is available at a lower price point. For anyone targeting a sub-4 hour marathon, the Next% 3 is the current spec; the Next% 2 is the value pick for training in a super shoe.

Is the Alphafly suitable for long training runs or only for race day?

Nike positions the Alphafly as a race-day or tempo-session shoe rather than a daily trainer. The carbon plate and aggressive geometry accelerate foot fatigue over high weekly mileage; most coaches recommend capping Alphafly use at two to three sessions per week. Pairing it with a softer daily trainer extends the lifespan of the foam and reduces injury risk from overuse.

How does Alphafly sizing run, and should Indian runners size up?

The Alphafly fits true to Nike size in length but is cut narrow through the midfoot due to the racing last. Runners with a standard or wider forefoot often find a half-size up more comfortable for anything beyond a 10 km effort. The snug midfoot is intentional for energy transfer; if it feels tight in the shop, go up half a size rather than lacing looser.
