XT-6 or XT-4 as the first Salomon to buy?

The XT-6 is the cult pick and the one most associated with gorpcore's crossover into streetwear: the multi-point lacing and aggressive lug pattern is the silhouette people recognise. The XT-4 is lower-profile with a slightly less polarising look, which makes it easier to fold into more everyday fits. If you want the full cultural moment, the XT-6 is the one; if you want something less loud, the XT-4.

How do Salomon sizes run for Indian feet?

Salomon uses a French sizing standard that runs about half a size long compared to standard EU sneaker sizing. Indian buyers typically find their standard EU size or even a half-size down works in Salomon. The XT-6 in particular has a snug heel cup, so if you're between sizes, size down before sizing up.

Can the XT-6 actually be used for trail running in India or is it purely a lifestyle buy?

The XT-6 is a fully functional trail shoe: the Contagrip outsole, Sensifit chassis, and haul-cord lacing system are all functional technology from Salomon's trail racing line. Indian buyers running on forest trails in hill stations or the Sahyadris will get genuine performance from it. As a lifestyle buy in urban India, the lug outsole on pavement wears faster than on trail, so expect more midsole exposure over time.
